Celebrate Earth Day in Sisters
Give thanks to our planet!
1. Hike to Whychus Creek Overlook
Less than 10 minutes from FivePine, the Whychus Creek Overlook Trailhead is a short 1-mile loop that is great for hiking, walking, and birding. Enjoy a scenic river, lush forest and breathtaking views of Whychus Creek. This loop is great for all levels and is dog friendly to all leashed dogs. For a full day of adventure, continue up the road and visit Three Creek Lake. There is a general store along the shore where you can rent boats, kayaks, snacks, and beverages. Firewood is also available for a beach bonfire.
2. Visit Camp Sherman & The Wizard Falls State Hatchery
In the early 1900’s, Camp Sherman was a refuge for wheat farmers. With the Metolius River running through the area, farmers and their families came to escape the summer heat. This historical campground now features spectacular attractions including the West Metolius River Trail and the Wizard Falls Hatchery. The West Metolius River Trail is an easy 7.3 mile out and back trail running parallel to the river through old-growth ponderosa pines and abundant wild flowers. Eventually the trail will reach the Wizard Falls Hatchery. View fish during different stages of their life, and purchase fish food from the dispensing machines for 25 cents. Many trails continue past the hatchery for those seeking additional miles.
3. Golf at Aspen Lakes
Hit the links this spring at Aspen Lakes golf course. Only minutes from FivePine, enjoy views of the Three Sisters, red cinder bunkers, and a 28,000 square foot clubhouse with pro shop, bar, and Brand 33 restaurant. Be sure to check out our Stay & Play Golf Package for two nights in a Classic Cabin, $50 food and beverage voucher and one round of golf for two with golf cart and bucket of range balls included.
4. Fly Fish in Sisters Country
There is an abundance of fishing spots within Sisters Country: both well know and hidden. Visit FivePine's Lodge for a hand selection of local flies or stop by the Fly Fisher’s Place downtown Sisters. A few of our favorite local fishing holes are Three Creek Lake, Whychus Creek and the Metolius River. If you haven’t fished for lake trout, Three Creek Lake is worth visiting and great for all skill levels. You can rent boats to fish from the center of the lake or wade out along the sandy beach. There is a steep drop off about 15 yards from the beach, but the water is warm so waders aren’t required. Another great river for the advanced fly fisher is the Metolius. It’s hard to pass up throwing a line into one of the most beautiful rivers in the nation, but cold, fast-moving water can make fishing here a challenge. The best fishing can be found from the headwaters down to Bridge 99 (about 12 miles). After that, the water starts to pick up and tumbles down steep rocks.
If you’re looking for the best Central Oregon fishing, book a guided trip with the Fly Fisher’s Place and enjoy 10% off any two night stay here at FivePine. View the details of the package below.
5. Mountain Bike the Peterson Ridge Trail System
Leave the car behind! Head out to the Peterson Ridge Trail System through the Happy Trails Connector right from the FivePine campus. This trail system is perfect for riders, hikers, and trail runners of all abilities. New to mountain biking? Ride the lower section for fun flat trails surrounded by towering ponderosa pines. Or tackle the short climb up to Eagle Rock for rewarding 360 degree views of the Cascade Mountains before descending fast, flowy singletrack. With over 25 miles of singletrack, man-made features and speedy descents, there’s much to explore!
